Variable pay is increasingly been used as an effective tool to communicate the linkage between individual performance and organization’s business objectives, as well as to drive and reward higher performance. More than 80% of companies worldwide are offering variable pay plans, (according to a recent survey by Hewitt Associates) clearly highlighting its prominence in the total direct compensation package.
In emerging markets like India where talent performance and retention are key business drivers, variable pay, especially in the form of incentives, bonuses and stock options are widely used across sectors.
