So it’s not Y2K—not even close. Nothing will cease to function, there will be no mass pandemonium, and it has nothing to do with the summer solstice or 12/21/2012 (the so-called Mayan doomsday).
However, IP addresses—our umbilical cords into the Internet—were not designed to be infinite and, as the Internet grows, these addresses are running out faster than originally thought.
